A French provincial pair of black painted side chairs, with hand-painted accents and upholstered seats, from the 19th century. These antique chairs from France each feature softly scalloped crest rails over graceful lyre-shaped, open splat design backrests, with hand-painted heraldic shields accented by delicate floral details and scrolling motifs. The flowing curves of the upright supports create a pleasing sense of movement. The upholstered seats are framed within a gently swagged apron that is embellished with hand-painted floral accents.
