About the Item

An exceptional and delicately painted large studio glass vase created in 1988 by Isgard Moje-Wohlgemuth, universally celebrated as the Grande Dame of the German Studio Glass Movement. A masterclass in thermal manipulation and metallic luster painting. This striking, elegantly tall studio glass vase is a rare and highly sophisticated masterpiece by Isgard Moje-Wohlgemuth, handcrafted in 1988 near Bremen, Germany. Embodying the height of the European Studio Glass Movement, this unique piece showcases the artist’s unparalleled mastery over both form and surface alchemy. The creation process of this vessel is highly complex: the blank glass body was meticulously hand-painted. Utilizing dissolved precious metal compounds, Moje-Wohlgemuth applied a textural composition of vibrant red and silver-grey tones. The vase was then transferred to the annealer, where the intense heat permanently fused the metallic pigments into the glass, resulting in a mesmerizing iridescent, lustrous surface. The shifting metallic hues contrast beautifully with the elegant, slender silhouette of the tall vase. This distinct, painterly signature immediately identifies the vase as an authentic work by Moje-Wohlgemuth. As the "Grande Dame" of German glass art, her work is highly sought after by international museums and discerning private collectors. This specific piece represents a seminal era of late 20th-century glass art exploration. For a comprehensive contextualization of her technique and historical significance, cf.: Dan Klein, "Artists in Glass - Late Twentieth-Century Masters in Glass", Beazley, London, 2001.
