In Certain Places - soft, vibrant, colorful, gestural abstract, oil on canvas
By Scott Pattinson
Located in Bloomfield, ON
In this lyrical abstract by Scott Pattinson generous brush strokes of pale blue, bright orange, soft yellow, light brown, pink, purple and gray float across a white canvas. By adding thick layers of acrylic paint in complementary colours punctuated by black marks, Pattinson’s expressive work immediately engages the viewer. “Pattinson plays with the emotional triggers of colours, mostly by slamming together unlikely, even decadent, contrasting hues and then encases those associations, the metonymic readings possible, with harsh, cutting and calligraphic blackish strokes.” R. M. Vaughan, Art Critic He studied architecture and urban design at the University of Toronto and completed a BES in Urban Design from the University of Waterloo. Since 2005, he has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in galleries across Canada, including a 2014 retrospective at Gallery Stratford. His work is held at Gallery Stratford as well as in numerous corporate and private collections in Canada, Dubai, Italy, France and the US. Scott Pattinson is represented exclusively by the Oeno Gallery.

There Is Something - large, vibrant, colourful, gestural abstract, oil on canvas
By Scott Pattinson
Located in Bloomfield, ON
The colour palette is exotic—bright yellows, orange, purple, blues, greens, white and black. The wild tangle of brush strokes gives this abstract painting by Scott Pattinson a vibrant energy. The Canadian artist is known for his expressive use of colour as a language. There is Something. “Pattinson plays with the emotional triggers of colours, mostly by slamming together unlikely, even decadent, contrasting hues and then encases those associations, the metonymic readings possible, with harsh, cutting and calligraphic blackish strokes.” R. Denouement No 45 - large, bright, colourful, gestural, abstract, oil on canvas
By Scott Pattinson
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This work celebrates the dynamic interplay of shades of blue, magenta, purple, enlivened by a liberal use of white and one perfect yellow note. Critics have called Pattinson's work "exuberant and sizzling", "edgy, innovative, a painter to collect." Pattinson's brush strokes have the sort of muscular energy that, were he a dancer, would cause people to swoon. The same type of marks and gestures are found in the intense emotional paintings of the abstract Expressionists of the last century. Because Pattinson respects underlying sculptural elements in his paintings, the pictorial space is held tight. (b.1974, Toronto, ON) Pattinson studied architecture and urban design at Oxford University and the University of Toronto. Both disciplines inform his dynamic, structural abstract...
