About the Item

Work : Original artwork inspired by the Impressionist style, Unique Work executed entirely by hand by the artist. Subject : May Green (Title) The piece celebrates springtime renewal, a recurring theme in art history often associated with regeneration and hope. Riesnert avoids explicit narrative or heavy symbolism here, opting instead for a contemplative approach. This oil pastel by Gabriel Riesnert falls within the tradition of idealized landscapes, where nature is stylized to evoke an almost utopian harmony. The work employs a classical composition, structured through successive planes: flowering trees in the foreground, a winding river at the center, and rolling hills in the background. This spatial arrangement creates visual depth while guiding the viewer’s eye toward the heart of the scene. Riesnert leverages oil pastel to explore pictorial texture and light. The color strokes are applied with a degree of freedom, lending the work an aspect that is both realistic and dreamlike. The flowering trees, rendered in soft pinks and purples, contrast with the deep greens of the hills, creating a balanced yet somewhat conventional chromatic palette. The depiction of clouds and sky, with gradients of blues and whites, recalls Impressionist techniques, though the overall effect leans more toward poetic realism than a bold exploration of light. Medium : Oil Pastel and Oil Colored Pencils on Hahnemühle heavyweight professional acid-free paper. The work has been treated with UV-resistant varnish. Artist : Gabriel Riesnert Signature : The work is signed, titled and dated verso. It will be supplied with a certificate of authenticity from the artist. Size : Image size: 14.96 x 7.48 in (38 x 19 cm). Sheet size: 11.69 x 16.54 in (29.7 x 42 cm, A3). Unframed. *To learn more about this work, please contact us via the 1stdibs messaging system. ___ ABOUT THE ARTIST French artist, Born in 1970, Gabriel Riesnert lives and works in Paris and south of France. He has exhibited regularly in France and abroad. Since his early age Gabriel Riesnert has been fascinated by the beauty of plant forms and urban architectural lines. His passion pushes him to a practice of painting and drawing between photographic inspiration and urban realism. The artist's consideration of painting is essentially turned to a representation of what we see and perceive of these forms, whether they provide a fiction or an impression of beauty, of serenity. Beyond the visual, the creation of a work for Gabriel Riesnert is an interpretive experience and a journey intimately linked to space and time. His paintings often represent spaces and forms that are inspired by the tradition of the natural and architectural landscape. By enlarging details and creating a play of colors and shadows, the painter draws up a quest for the possible and a virgin path in the viewer's eye. Gabriel Riesnert has exhibited in galleries in Paris, Brussels and south of France
