About the Item

A relatively large antique carved oak wall plaque of Julius Caesar of Grand Tour interest dating back to circa 1820. Deeply carved in relief, this decorative wall art piece sees a portrait bust of the Roman emperor with a corona triumphalis laurel wreath crown atop his head, the carving stained green with timeworn wear in places, before a rectangular oak backdrop in an appealing hue with natural woodgrain. Fitted with a wall hook ready for hanging, this Grand Tour style carving will make a striking addition to an interior wall seeking objects of neoclassical interest.
