About the Item

This dynamically charged mid-century modern original illustration painting perfectly captures the high-velocity thrill of 1960s open-wheel motorsport. Executed in a vibrant gouache or acrylic medium on illustration board, the panoramic composition features an intense racetrack duel between two vintage race cars. The lead car, bearing racing number 92, proudly displays the legendary British Racing Green livery with a striking golden-yellow nose cone and wheels characteristic of Team Lotus. Nipping at its heels is a contrasting bright orange-red racer, number 56, captured mid-slide with an expressive sense of motion blur and track dust. The painting is the work of Frederick "Fred" H. Stout Jr. (1934–2024), an accomplished American commercial illustrator and competitive SCCA road racer who graduated with a fine arts degree from Washington University. Signed by the artist "FStout" in the lower right, this work’s elongated format suggests it was originally commissioned as commercial concept art or editorial layout illustration. Because Stout uniquely blended his professional artistic training with his firsthand adrenaline and technical knowledge on the track, his depictions of historic motorsport are highly accurate, dynamic, and collected by automotive enthusiasts across three continents. Showcasing brilliant color theory and mid-century graphic appeal, this original artwork makes a powerful, nostalgic statement piece and remains in very good vintage condition. Key words Indy 500 , Le Mans , F1 Racing The Lotus 25 was a racing car designed by Colin Chapman for the 1962 Formula One season. It was a revolutionary design, the first fully stressed monocoque chassis to appear in Formula One. In the hands of Jim Clark it took 14 World Championship Grand Prix wins and propelled him to his 1963 World Championship title. Its last World Championship win was at the 1965 French Grand Prix.

Michael Chomyck WPA American Regionalist Modern Industry & Progress Mural Study

By Michael Chomyk, Raymond Loewy

Located in St. Louis, MO

This exceptional original American Regionalist watercolor and gouache mural study perfectly encapsulates the optimistic "Progress and Industry" design spirit of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) era. Masterfully executed by acclaimed St. Louis muralist and WPA artist Michael Chomyk (1911–1993), the composition vividly chronicles the evolution of mid-century American infrastructure, transportation, and trade. The panoramic scene dynamically bridges two distinct worlds: a quiet, rural farm landscape complete with a traditional red barn and silos, and a bustling symbol of modern progress. Cutting through the countryside is a sleek, aerodynamic streamlined rail train, while a classic multi-engine propeller plane slices through the sky above. Both elements of transportation guide the viewer's eye toward a towering, geometric Art Deco NYC...
