About the Item

Drawing by Edouard Pingret, River Scene, "Les Bords du Cher à Poitiers" Grey and light brown wash with graphite on paper. Signed bottom right and situated bottom left. Edouard Henri Theophile Pingret (Saint Quentin 1788-1875). He was a student of David and his works can be admired at various museums, including Chantilly and Versailles. This drawing is poetic with its dramatic staging and play on light and its masterful use of wash. It represents the Cher River near Poitiers in the South West of France. It is signed and located.
