About the Item

A striking 20th century decorative panel executed in the Chinoiserie tradition, featuring an elegant black lacquer ground richly embellished with raised and gilt-painted decoration. The composition depicts an elaborate landscape populated with traditionally dressed figures and architectural elements, including a pavilion, together with a bird, flowers and waterfall. These decorative elements create a richly detailed scene inspired by the European interpretation of traditional Chinese art. Raised lacquer work, painted decoration and gilded details provide texture and visual depth against the deep black ground, allowing the intricate composition to stand out dramatically. Highly decorative in character, the panel would make an impressive wall-mounted accent within both traditional and eclectic interiors. Presented in good vintage condition and remaining solid. A number of minor historic touch-ups are present but do not significantly detract from the appearance of the piece when displayed.
