About the Item

Architectural trestle supports and fluted baluster legs define this graduated nest of three oak tables. Each end is supported by substantial turned columns cut with hollow vertical fluting, resting upon stepped sledge bases. The largest table features an elongated rounded-corner top and a low horizontal stretcher linking the two end uprights, giving the stand rigid stability while allowing the companion tables to slide smoothly into place. Constructed from solid oak, the suite displays prominent wood grain under a rich dark finish. While the primary table presents soft oval-ended curves, the medium and small nesting tables are proportioned with crisp rectangular tops. This graduated design allows the trio to pack away into a compact footprint when not in use, yet easily separate to serve tea, drinks or reading lamps across a sitting room. Stylistically influenced by seventeenth-century refectory forms, the set was produced during the Edwardian period, circa 1910, reflecting the era's taste for sturdy Jacobean revival furnishings. The robust joinery, stepped feet and moulded under-rails provide both practical durability and a balanced, grounding presence. Dimensions for the trio are graduated: the largest measures 81 cm wide by 50 cm deep and 53 cm high; the medium table measures 52.5 cm wide by 36.5 cm deep and 50 cm high; and the smallest is 37.5 cm wide by 32.5 cm deep and 47.5 cm high. Surface wear is visible along the edges and corners consistent with age and domestic handling, particularly across the top of the smallest table, while the frames remain sturdy.
