About the Item

This oak dining table was made in France in the 1950s, in the manner of Charles Dudouyt. It comes out of the provincial workshops of the Reconstruction years, when French cabinetmakers worked in regional oak and let the joinery show. The top measures 160 cm long by 94 cm deep and stands 74.5 cm high, which seats six comfortably and eight at a push. It rests on four heavy cylindrical legs, each turned in deep concentric rings that run from floor to apron. The same ring motif is repeated at the corners of the apron. The oak is solid throughout, with a honeyed tone, visible medullary rays and a matte open grain surface. Put it in a kitchen that doubles as the room everyone ends up in, or in a dining room where the table has to hold its own against plain walls. It takes daily use without complaint. The top is sound and the legs are firm. The surface carries the marks of ordinary meals, and we have left them. In stock in our workshop and ready to ship.
