About the Item

Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen’s HG Systemi for Hansen & Guldborg places itself confidently in the distinguished tradition of Danish modular wall systems — alongside the work of Poul Cadovius and Kai Kristiansen — while achieving its own distinct character through material richness, considered cabinet design, and the flexibility of its peg-hole upright system. This three-bay configuration spans approximately 106 inches and is fully reconfigurable: the four 78-inch steel uprights with faux wood finish can be repositioned, and every shelf and cabinet within the system mounts at adjustable heights to suit any wall and any room. The component inventory speaks to the system’s ambition. The stereo cabinet — opening from both the top and the front with a purpose-fitted interior — was designed specifically for hi-fi equipment, a detail that anchors this piece firmly in the cultural moment of its making. One tambour-door cabinet, one glass-front cabinet, two magazine rack shelves, three narrow shelves, two larger shelves, and two light bars complete the three bays. All exterior surfaces are Brazilian rosewood — dramatically swirling, deeply figured — with pale birch interiors throughout. The Danish Furniture Makers’ Control stamp is present on the components, and the original HG Systemi product brochure accompanies the piece — a meaningful documentation of a system whose modular nature makes provenance tracking more challenging than for single pieces.
