About the Item

This exceptional walnut bombé commode from the Regence period. It has four beautifully shaped drawers with original rocaille decorated ormolu mounts. The top two drawers have a rare internal locking mechanism with integrated keys and pulls. When the pulls are turned the drawers lock. The scrolled apron has a center cartouche of a triple fleur-de-lis. The curving sides are decorated with carved shells and a scrolled apron. The piece stands on four beautifully carved cabriole legs. The triple fleur-de-lis signifies the arms of “France Moderne” Azure or the French monarchy prior to the French Revolution. N.P.
