About the Item

A charming and authentic early American country dry sink dating to the first half of the 19th century, circa 1830. Constructed of pine with a shaped and scalloped backsplash above a two-door cupboard base, this well-preserved example exhibits the honest wear and character sought after by collectors of early American furniture. The case retains its original boarded back, hand-cut joinery, square-cut nails, and early hardware, all supporting its early date and rural origins. Particularly appealing are the remnants of an earlier olive green painted surface visible beneath the later finish, suggesting the cupboard may have originally been decorated in one of the period's most desirable country colors. The mellow rubbed and uniquely worn surface, natural shrinkage, age cracks, and generations of use create a rich patina impossible to replicate. The interior opens to reveal a fixed shelf providing ample storage. The shaped gallery and simple architectural lines reflect the influence of regional Mid-Atlantic and Upper Southern country craftsmanship, possibly Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky or the Ohio Valley area. A truly handsome and highly functional piece that works equally well in a country, primitive, farmhouse, or traditional interior. A wonderfully unique find!
