A superb early 18th-century George I walnut "tallboy" chest-on-stand, featuring exquisite oyster walnut veneers. Early oyster walnut chest-on-stands are scarce. The upper section consists of two short over three long graduated drawers, each meticulously book-matched to show the concentric grain patterns characteristic of the period. The drawers are framed by delicate feather-banding and retain their high-quality, period-correct brass batwing escutcheons and drop handles. The chest sits upon its original stand, which houses a single deep long drawer above a beautifully shaped, arched apron. The piece is elevated by elegant cabriole legs terminating in refined pad feet, providing a sophisticated silhouette that balances the visual weight of the upper case. The sides are finished in solid walnut with a rich, deep patina. The construction features traditional hand-cut dovetails and pegged joints, consistent with early 17th to 18th century cabinetmaking.
