About the Item

An exceptional vintage industrial typesetter's matrix cabinet by Ludlow, originally designed for use in traditional letterpress printing workshops during the early to mid-20th century. Constructed with a sturdy metal frame and numerous shallow wooden drawers, each featuring carefully divided compartments originally intended to organize and store individual brass printing matrices used in the typesetting process. The cabinet retains its beautifully distressed green painted finish, revealing decades of authentic wear, oxidation, and layers of exposed metal that contribute to its remarkable industrial character. Original Ludlow embossed metal drawer pulls and aged identification labels further emphasize its historical printing heritage. Its distinctive slanted metal top, characteristic of traditional typesetting workstations, provides a practical working surface while adding a striking architectural element to the design. The wooden drawer interiors display a rich, naturally aged patina, creating a beautiful contrast with the weathered metal exterior.
