About the Item

Pair of Mid-Century stacking task stools manufactured by the Belgian post-war furniture maker Tubax in the 1960s. Each stool features a circular wood seat in a warm amber tone set atop four curved tubular metal legs painted white. The form closely follows the Fritz Hansen stool silhouette, with legs that arc outward slightly before connecting to the seat underside, keeping the profile clean and compact. No stretchers interrupt the open base, reinforcing the utilitarian simplicity of the design. Tubax was a Belgian manufacturer active during the post-war decades, producing Mid-Century furniture that drew on Scandinavian and broader European modernist influences. Stools in this form were widely adopted for institutional, workshop, and domestic use across Europe during the 1960s, prized for their stackability and minimal footprint. The Fritz Hansen stool, with its near-identical tubular leg and round plywood seat construction, was among the most widely referenced templates for this category of seating. The pair retains its original finish and shows age-appropriate wear on the wood seats, including surface scuffing and some lacquer loss consistent with use. The two stools vary slightly in tone: one frame reads as brighter white, the other as a creamier off-white.
