Vintage Rattan Brighton Pavillion Lounge Chairs - A Pair

About the Item

This pair of vintage rattan Brighton Pavilion-style lounge chairs exemplifies the exuberant, Chinoiserie-inspired design language popularized in mid-20th-century tropical modern furniture. Each chair features a dramatically arched crest rail curving gracefully overhead, framed by vertical rattan spindles that create an open, airy backdrop punctuated by bold, X-shaped lattice motifs, a hallmark decorative detail associated with the Brighton Pavilion aesthetic. The barrel-form back flows seamlessly into rolled arm terminals, their continuous curved silhouette echoing traditional Chinese horseshoe-back chair design translated through natural rattan construction. Beneath the seat, a substantial box-form base is wrapped in tightly packed horizontal rattan slats, its sturdy, architectural presence providing visual weight and grounding the more delicate latticework above. The seats themselves are fitted with hand-woven cane in a fine, tight pattern, offering a breathable, textural surface that complements the surrounding rattan framework. Throughout, the rattan displays a rich, warm honey-amber patina, its natural material variation and lustrous sheen speaking to decades of careful preservation, while the meticulous joinery throughout showcases the fine craftsmanship associated with quality Brighton Pavilion reproductions. This striking pair makes a wonderful statement flanking a fireplace, in a sunroom, or as elegant accent seating in a living room or entryway. They suit Boho, Chinoiserie, Coastal, and Hollywood Regency interiors particularly well. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or brush, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight or excessive moisture, which can affect the rattan's natural finish over time. Each chair measures 21¾ inches in width, 17¼ inches in depth, and 34¾ inches in height, with a seat height of 19¼ inches. Both present in very good condition, with original rattan finish and warm, age-appropriate patina, minor surface scuffs and slight wear on high-contact areas, and no visible repairs or losses. A striking pair of designer rattan seating — bring this exceptional Brighton Pavilion pair home today.
