About the Item

MANUEL VIDAL GRAU (Valencia, c. 1934-2016) "Swan" Chairs, 1980s. Brass, mahogany, and dyed leather. Dimensions: 85 x 52 x 56 cm (x6). Set of six "Swan" chairs designed with a distinctly sculptural character. The armrests culminate in swan heads. The polished brass frame and legs contrast with the mahogany backrest. Manuel Vidal Grau was a prominent Valencian designer and businessman whose professional and creative career left a significant mark on the contemporary furniture sector in Spain and international markets. Vidal Grau developed a business career that spanned several decades and placed him among the leading figures in the design and manufacture of luxury furniture in his time. His journey in the furniture world began in 1953 at the company SOYMA in Valencia, where he gained experience in the manufacture of metal furniture components. A decisive step occurred in 1963 when the company moved to Benimámet under the trade name Hierros Artísticos Vidal. However, it was in 1974, upon settling into new and spacious facilities in Bétera, that Vidal Grau established the company “Muebles Vidal Grau,” which quickly gained international recognition for the quality and design of its products. The firm specialized in contemporary furniture design for both homes and select spaces, combining traditional materials with more innovative solutions that incorporated molded plastics and synthetic elements treated with technical precision.
