About the Item

This chair and table set is designed entirely in the style of "New Simplicity": total reduction to the essentials. The upholstery with cotton webbing in several colors, forming small squares (one of my favorite shapes), and the gently curved beechwood legs made this chair distinctive; all parts were made of natural materials. A beautiful handcrafted detail is the corner joints of the wooden frame. In addition to the simple chair, there was a version with semicircular armrests. The collection also included a specially designed dining table, whose legs echoed the curved lines of the chairs. The dining table's top was covered with linoleum—a lovely contrast to the light beechwood. The THONET 737 set received three design awards.
