About the Item

Ulisse' folding cane chairs in deep orange enameled metal with beige plastic seats, designed by Ivan Loss for Sandrigarden Vicenza in 1981. The concept is straightforward and ingenious: a functional walking cane that, with minimal effort, unfolds into a tripod-legged seat via folding mechanism. Ball-tip finials cap the curved cane handle and each leg foot. The Ulisse earned considerable recognition in the Italian design community and entered the permanent collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, one of the leading international museums of modern and contemporary art and design. Loss's design sits squarely in the Post-Modern Italian design tradition of the early 1980s, a period defined by wit, material ingenuity, and the subversion of conventional object categories. The Ulisse collapses the boundary between mobility aid and seating furniture into a single, compact object. In original condition with age-appropriate wear.
