About the Item

A striking early Victorian table lamp dating to circa 1850, combining substantial bronzed metalwork with a dramatic hand-moulded torch-flame glass shade. The lamp has a tall, elegantly proportioned architectural form, with its bronzed brass structure displaying the rich natural patination expected of a piece of this age. Decorative detailing and the sculptural silhouette anticipate the organic vocabulary that would later become associated with the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. The focal point is the hand-moulded flame-form art glass shade, whose elongated profile creates the appearance of a stylised torch when illuminated. The softly coloured glass produces a warm atmospheric glow and provides an attractive contrast against the aged bronze finish. Standing approximately 57 cm tall, the lamp has excellent presence without being excessively large, making it suitable for a desk, console, library table, side table or period interior. The lamp is fitted with a B22 bayonet bulb holder and displays attractive age-related patination consistent with its antique character.
