About the Item

Cités Collection Light Sculpture This new collection is characterized by straight, taut lines on blown glass, which by its very nature tends to take on rounded forms. Each piece is unique, created using the Swedish overlay technique, in which layers of glass are built up one after another, before being shaped at the last moment by pressing the piece into one-of-a-kind molds. Once cooled, the sculpture is reworked, sawed, carved, and sanded to bring out the colors. The cities evoke Romanesque architecture, reimagined and stylized, but also serve as a means to evoke, through the glass, nature’s extraordinary gems, as if ancient cities were suddenly emerging from the earth, carved from the most incredible translucent stones—precious, to say the least. About the designer Xavier Le Normand, a glassblower for twenty-five years and winner of the Bettencourt Prize for manual dexterity, creates poetic works inspired by nature, the cosmos and the seabed. In 2021, he moved to the Dordogne region, where he set up a large studio and developed an artistic identity based on glassblowing and cold cutting. Xavier Lenormand draws inspiration from nature, which he considers a source of perfection and humility. His maritime memories of Saint Malo feed his intuition and imagination. His work, deeply connected to the cosmos, the seabed, and luminous phenomena, seeks to express the movement of life and the fragility of childhood. He sculpts, chisels, engraves, and prints glass, a material he believes capable of transforming the unreal into objects, inviting us through his sculptures to dream and marvel.
