About the Item

‘Sencer’, is a floating marble sculpture by marble atelier on·entropy, which can be used as a contemporary design pendant lamp. It consists of two U-shaped concave shapes of solid marble, which are carved out, so that space is created. Then light is introduced and transmitted from within the stone. Sencer’ is inspired by incense burners found in the Greek orthodox churches. With this design, the marble atelier notes: ‘We want to employ unique properties of marble, like translucency, and create a modern representation of an ecclesiastic censer. Our intention is to transform marble from a rigid and hard material to a lightweight & warm design entity. Ultimately our mission is to enrich the environment with stimuli, engage the users’ senses, so that the emotional field of those within is altered. ‘Sencer’ has been featured in prestigious cultural locations like the Benaki Museum of Hellenic Culture and Via Cessare Correnti in Milan, as well as covered by some highly-esteemed media including Wallpaper*. ________________________________________ What makes it unique: What makes 'Sencer' truly unique is its sculptural integrity: no glue, no laminates precisely engineered and hand-finished by on.entropy’s in-house marble craftsmen. Where the marble is carved, light softly emerges, revealing the natural veining and crystal structure of this rare material. The result is a modern pendant lighting that is both functional and atmospheric, quietly commanding attention without ever overpowering the space. It has no messy wires hanging, but only its discreet hanging wires. ________________________________________ Visualizing it in your space: Despite its marble body, Ray is surprisingly lightweight in both mass and visual presence. Its slim, U-shaped form appears to float effortlessly, suspended by three minimalist wires. It may installed as a singular pendant but can also be installed as an arrangement of numerous Sencers to form a chandelier. When illuminated, the marble glows from within—diffusing light softly outward while revealing delicate veining unique to each piece. Whether hung alone over a side table, a bedside or in a row above as an installation, its presence is both intimate and sculptural—a focal point that invites people to gather around.
