About the Item

Mid-Century Modern Fish Motif Cheeseboard by Couroc of Monterey, California, circa 1970s. This exceptional vintage cheeseboard is a signature creation from the celebrated Couroc Co. of Monterey, California. Founded in 1948 by Guthrie Courvoisier and Moira Wallace. The company is renowned for its proprietary black phenolic resin material, which is not only aesthetically striking with its "satin-black" ebony-like finish but also remarkably durable, impervious to alcohol, boiling water, and cigarette burns. The tray is in good vintage condition with slight surface blemishes due to age and use, and measures approximately 12.5"D x 9.5"W x .5"H. #9102. The tray features a hand-inlaid design of two whimsical fish, meticulously crafted with mosaic-style turquoise and gold-toned materials, likely featuring brass accents and natural shells. A raised, integrated cutting surface made of New England Sugar Maple occupies the left side, designed for functional serving of charcuterie and cheeses. Each Couroc piece is unique due to the hand-setting of its natural inlays by master artisans, making this both a conversational art piece and a versatile barware accessory.
