About the Item

This Fornasetti Tema e Variazioni ceramic plate exemplifies the surrealist elegance for which the house is celebrated, presenting a haunting, dreamlike face rendered entirely in crisp black and white. A pair of wide, heavily lashed eyes gazes outward from beneath fine, textured brows, while the surrounding "skin" of the face dissolves into cascading vertical striations, resembling flowing hair, rain, or wood grain depending on the angle of viewing. The graphic linework is exceptionally precise, built from dense clusters of fine parallel lines that shift in weight and spacing to suggest volume and shadow across the circular ceramic form. The palette is purely monochrome, printed on a smooth, ice-white glazed ground that lets the black detailing read with striking clarity and depth. The rim remains clean and unadorned, allowing the imagery to command full attention edge to edge. Both the transfer print and glaze are in pristine, original condition, with no fading, staining, or surface disruption to distract from the design's hypnotic symmetry. Display this plate on a wall-mounted stand, prop it on a plate rail, or use it as a striking accent atop a stack of tableware on an open shelf. It complements Mid-Century Modern, Surrealist, Eclectic, Postmodern, and Contemporary interiors. To care for it, hand wash gently with mild soap and a soft cloth, avoid abrasive scrubbing that could dull the printed design, and refrain from microwave or dishwasher use if displaying rather than serving. Measurements: 10.25 inches wide, 10.25 inches deep, and 1 inch high. Condition is excellent, with an original finish, no chips, cracks, or repairs, and only minimal signs of wear.
