About the Item

Victorian Period, Continental Silver (.800), wager/marriage cup in the form of a Medieval marriage cup, hallmarked for Hamburg, Germany, Ca. 1892. Maker is probably Richard Koberlin. Measures 6 inches high (at highest point) x 3 inches wide (at widest point) x 1 1/2 inches diameter across bottom. Weighs 3.515 Troy ounces. Decorated with fruit, flowers, etc. The wager/marriage cup is the figure of a woman, arms raised, holding up a cup on a swivel. When the figure is turned upside down, her skirt becomes another cup. Since the top cup swivels, it is now possible for two people to drink from both ends of the marriage cup at the same time. Dark areas on silver in photos are reflections. In very good antique condition.
