About the Item

American glassmaker T. G. Hawkes crafted this elegant Art Deco cocktail mixer, exemplifying the refined barware produced during the golden age of American entertaining. The barware piece features a tall crystal vessel with a sterling silver mounted strainer rim, combining Hawkes' renowned crystal craftsmanship with fine silversmithing. The crystal body is decorated with a sophisticated satin-etched Art Deco motif, showcasing vertical striped panels accented by floral engravings around the upper register. The pitcher retains its original sterling silver strainer, stamped "Sterling" together with the model number. Also included is a long Alpaca cocktail spoon with a streamlined Art Deco design. While not original to the set, the previous owner added this 1930s spoon for an absolute entertainment experience, and it complements the mixer perfectly for serving cocktails and martinis. The spoon is marked "Alpacca." Measurements: Pitcher: 4.13 in wide (10.5 cm) by 3.94 in deep (10 cm) by 8.88 in high (22.5 cm). Long Spoon: 10.82 in long (30 cm) by 1.75 in wide (4.5 cm). Note: The in situ view is AI-generated, and the other accessories are not included in the sale. Further reading: Maker: T. G. Hawkes & Co., Corning, New York Founded in 1880 by Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York, Hawkes Rich Cut Glass Works quickly established itself as one of America's most prestigious producers of brilliant cut crystal. The firm's international reputation was cemented in 1889 when it received the Grand Prize for cut glass at the Paris Exposition Universelle. The company was incorporated as T. G. Hawkes & Co. in 1890 and remained a leading force in American luxury glassmaking through the first half of the twentieth century. Renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, T. G. Hawkes & Co. specialized in finely cut crystal and was celebrated for both brilliant-cut and architectural glass designs. Among its most desirable creations are substantial crystal cocktail shakers and pitchers featuring vertical panel cutting and elegant satin-finished floral engraving. Because Hawkes produced only the crystal components, the company frequently collaborated with distinguished American silversmiths, including Gorham, Tiffany & Co., and Wallace, who supplied custom-made sterling silver mounts, rims, and fittings. These partnerships resulted in some of the finest barware and decorative objects of the American Art Deco and early twentieth-century periods. The company continued operations until declining demand for cut glass during the mid-twentieth century ultimately led to its closure in 1962, following the death of Samuel Hawkes in 1959.
