About the Item

A rare Swedish Art Deco stoneware vase designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson for Upsala Ekeby, Sweden, circa 1935. Model 3103, this sculptural ceramic piece exemplifies the expressive forms and distinctive glaze treatments of Swedish ceramics during the 1930s. The vase features a striking faceted silhouette with a softly tapered body, a short raised neck, and a beautifully mottled beige glaze with subtle variations in tone and texture. Its most distinctive feature is the pair of sculptural double-scroll handles in glossy terracotta red, creating a vivid contrast against the warm, understated glaze. The combination of architectural geometry and flowing decorative details gives the piece a strong visual presence. Thomson was an important Swedish ceramic designer whose work is associated with refined forms, experimental surface treatments, and the development of modern Scandinavian ceramics. This design reflects her ability to balance geometric structure with organic expression, making it an appealing example of Swedish Art Deco pottery. The underside is marked “EKEBY 3103.” Details: - Designer: Anna-Lisa Thomson - Manufacturer: Upsala Ekeby - Model: 3103 - Origin: Sweden - Period: Circa 1935 - Style: Swedish Art Deco - Material: Glazed stoneware - Glaze: Mottled beige with glossy terracotta-red handles - Height: 6.7 in (17 cm) - Diameter: 6.7 in (17 cm) Condition:Good vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and use.
