About the Item

Large Monumental Benjamin Burts Signed Studio Pottery Urn A monumental hand-thrown studio pottery urn by American ceramic artist Benjamin Burts, distinguished by its commanding architectural scale and richly textured, sculptural presence. Signed “Burts” by the artist, the vessel showcases a beautifully developed crackle glaze in warm earth tones with layered bronze and charcoal accents that create exceptional depth and an aged patina. The classical amphora-inspired form is elevated by sculptural details, including twin loop handles and an expressive molded female mascaron adorning the neck. The gently flared rim and substantial proportions give the piece a museum-quality presence, making it equally compelling as a floor sculpture or statement decorative object. Benjamin Burts is recognized for creating one-of-a-kind, hand-built ceramic works that blend classical influences with contemporary studio pottery techniques. His pieces are appreciated for their organic surfaces, architectural scale, and sculptural quality, with no two examples exactly alike. This impressive urn functions as both fine art and decorative sculpture, equally at home in traditional, Mediterranean, contemporary, or rustic interiors. Dimensions Height: 39.5 in. Diameter: Approximately 24 in. Condition Very good vintage condition with intentional crackle glaze, kiln effects, and surface variations consistent with the artist’s firing process and the nature of handmade studio ceramics. Signed “Burts.”
