About the Item

A 19th Century hand hewn tree trunk storage barrel with lid. This large lidded barrel has oodles of character. The organic shape of the barrel retains the shape of the tree from which it was hewn, including the crotch or plume that can be seen on both the exterior and interior. The exterior shows the original chisel marks of the maker and it has acquired a wonderful patina from years of use and handling. Similar examples have been attributed to various countries across the globe and while it is similar to a barrel sold by Bonhams and attributed to New England, it is not possible to be certain of country of origin. Dimensions: 27"H x 19.5"W x 19"D Condition: Good/Fair, cracks, chips and wear show age and use. The barrel has a nice rustic appearance overall.
