About the Item
We named this natural concretion of pseudostromatolite "The gorilla walk", due to it's shape.
Stromatolites this quality are rare and exceptional, especially for the obvious pareidolia we can make with. It's a unique one of a kind specimen. The hand made stand in painted steel, with hammered steel style, emphasis the movement and gives a living aspect to the sculpture.
Unlike true stromatolites, which are formed through the activity of microbial communities, these formations are considered abiotic sedimentary concretions. They developed through the circulation of mineral-rich groundwater within sandy sediments, promoting the precipitation of minerals and the progressive cementation of sand grains into concentric structures. Subsequent differential erosion revealed and accentuated these distinctive patterns.
Such pseudostromatolites are associated with Middle Cretaceous sandstone formations in Morocco. Their remarkable organic-looking geometry is a compelling example of how mineralization, sedimentation, and erosion can produce forms that closely resemble biological structures
