About the Item

Sheryl Cannold Benjamin (American, 1924 - 2023) Carved Marble Abstract Modernist Sculpture on Marble Base. Approx 40 lbs. Circa Late 20th Century. Measurements: 11" H x 15" W x 8" D. About the artist: Sheryl Paula Cannold Benjamin of Harrison, NY was born March 19, 1924 in Bronx, NY. Sheryl studied at Columbia University, Julliard, and the Arts Students League, pursuing the arts as well as voice training. She was a gifted painter and sculptor and exhibited her work in local exhibitions. Little is known of this hidden gem of an artist but it's believed Sheryl was a member of Studio 725, a consortium of women who as visual artists and sculptors maintained a communal studio at 41 Union Square in Manhattan. As a member or affiliate of Studio 725, Sheryl would have had exposure and inspiration from world renown artists such as Naomi Feinberg and Lorrie Goulet. This curation of art comes directly from the artist's personal estate where works of Naomi Feinberg and Lorrie Goulet also graced the private collection.
