About the Item

A tall hand-painted high temperature ceramic column sculpture by Mexican artist Javier Cervantes. The column is formed by 6 sections that get piled together over a steel bar attached to a base. The column is hand-painted with organic motifs in ochre, black, white and light blue. The sculpture is signed JC 2001 on the lower section. Javier Cervantes was born in Mexico City. He studied ceramics under Abel Ramírez and continued his studies at the MOA School of Art and Life Sciences in Toluca. He later established workshops in Cuernavaca, Jalapa and Oaxaca. In the latest, he supported communitary projects and served as a ceramics teacher. His latest project is Taller 3x3, a workshop he established along American ceramist Barbara Campbell in San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca.
