About the Item

Elegant 19th-century silver chamberstick dating to circa 1870–1881, featuring an engraved “A M” monogram and traditional assay and silversmith marks. The circular body is centered by a raised candle socket and finished with a practical side handle, creating the classic form associated with antique chambersticks and portable candleholders. The piece bears the silversmith’s mark JGTA, attributed to an unidentified Porto silversmith active during the period 1870–1881, together with the historic crowned “P” assay mark. The crowned “P” silver mark was traditionally used by Porto assayers and guaranteed a minimum silver fineness of approximately 750/1000. This type of assay mark remained in use until 1886. Its engraved ownership monogram and period hallmarks add historical character and make the piece particularly appealing to collectors of antique silver, historic lighting, candleholders, and European decorative arts.
