About the Item

A rolled rim terminating in a tight spiral scroll defines this Venetian art glass bowl, shaped in the form of a stylised sea shell or curled leaf. Measuring 15 cm in width, the compact dish features an asymmetrical, organic contour with deep dished sides, designed to serve as a small decorative centrepiece, trinket dish, or vide-poche. The interior surface is embellished using traditional Italian hot-working techniques, combining shimmering copper aventurine flecks with scattered polychrome inclusions. Streaks of metallic copper sparkle against the dark ground, mingled with floating patches of milky white, soft amber, and pale sea-green glass. A thick layer of clear glass encapsulates these elements, creating considerable visual depth across the bowl's reflective interior. In contrast to the complex interior patterning, the underside and outer walls are rendered in smooth, glossy dark glass. The folded rim loops inward along one edge, forming a distinctive scrolled handle that adds sculptural structure to the freeform profile. On the underside, the base has been ground flat for stability, retaining traces of an old cork pad or paper remnant at the centre. Dating from the mid-20th century, probably the 1950s or 1960s, the dish reflects the exuberant 'tutti frutti' and aventurine styles popularised by Murano glasshouses such as A.VE.M. and Fratelli Toso. It remains unsigned, in keeping with much post-war Venetian production. We ship internationally, tracked. Please see our other items for sale, where we combine shipping on multiple lots. We also offer freight shipping for larger furniture pieces.
