What is a glass bell jar?

A bell glass jar is a jar shaped like a bell. It opens from the bottom and the bell jar that is the top and the sides are made of a single piece of glass. On 1stDibs, find a variety of antique and vintage glass bell jars.

What is a ginger jar lamp?

A ginger jar lamp pairs a lovely lampshade with an ornate Chinese spice jar to create a visually appealing lamp. The lampshades can be neutral or colorful to create a beautiful effect. Find a collection of antique and vintage table lamps on 1stDibs.

What are large glass jars called?

Large glass jars are also known as carboys or demijohns. A demijohn can hold 16 gallons, and is typically made of glass. They were historically used to transport water or chemicals, but nowadays, demijohns are used to brew beer in one’s home. You’ll find a variety of demijohns from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.

What are colored glass lamps called?

What colored glass lamps are called depends on their design. People usually refer to lamps with stained glass shades as Tiffany lamps or Tiffany-style lamps, after Louis Comfort Tiffany, the best known designer of this style of lamp (even if the fixture is not a product of the iconic Tiffany Studios). Colored glass lamps made by artisans on Murano in Venice are commonly referred to as Murano lamps. Shop a collection of lamps from some of the world's top sellers on 1stDibs.

How do I identify a slag glass lamp?

To identify a slag glass lamp, study its characteristics. Slag glass is often easy to spot because of its unique swirling pattern and variations in opacity that give it the appearance of marble stone. However, the material is lighter than stone. Certain makers are also known for producing slag glass lamps, such as Bradley & Hubbard, the Miller Lamp Company, the Handel Lamp Company and Tiffany Studios. Researching any maker's marks found on your lamp can help you determine if it was produced by one of these companies or by another maker known for its slag glass lamps. Alternatively, you can have a certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer help you make an identification. Explore a diverse assortment of slag glass lamps on 1stDibs.

Can you paint a glass lamp shade?

Yes, you can paint a glass lamp shade. You can use glass paints or acrylic paint to give old glass fixtures an inexpensive makeover. You can also use stencils for added visual appeal. Find a variety of lamp shades on 1stDibs.

How can you tell how old a glass lamp is?

To tell how old a glass lamp is, first look for markings that can help identify the name of the manufacturer. Many makers placed markings or labels on the bulb’s housing or the bases of the lamps they produced. By using trusted online resources, you can determine when the maker was active and estimate the age of the fixture. Certified appraisers can also be of assistance when trying to date lamps. Shop a range of glass lamps on 1stDibs.

Glass Jar Lamp For Sale on 1stDibs

Choose from an assortment of styles, material and more with respect to the glass jar lamp you’re looking for at 1stDibs. A glass jar lamp — often made from glass, mercury glass and metal — can elevate any home. Your living room may not be complete without a glass jar lamp — find older editions for sale from the 18th Century and newer versions made as recently as the 20th Century. A glass jar lamp made by Mid-Century Modern designers — as well as those associated with Regency — is very popular. You’ll likely find more than one glass jar lamp that is appealing in its simplicity, but Tyndale produced versions that are worth a look.

How Much is a Glass Jar Lamp?

Prices for a glass jar lamp start at $490 and top out at $5,800 with the average selling for $1,780.

Finding the Right Table-lamps for You

Antique table lamps became a category of their own once electricity moved light off the wall and onto furniture. The form split quickly: task-driven designs like the Anglepoise on one side, decorative ceramic and glass on the other.

Styles to Know

Base material shapes the light as much as the shade does: ceramic and glass diffuse a softer glow, while brass and metal read more directional. Layer the look with a mid-century modern floor lamp for ambient light, or set a pair on a mid-century modern nightstand for a bedroom.

How to Choose the Right Vintage Table Lamp

Buying individually rather than as a pair allows more flexibility when mixing eras across a room. For those shopping by name rather than by shape, the history of the Anglepoise lamp is worth a read. Each piece comes from a vetted 1stDibs seller, with era, designer and condition detailed, and the 1stDibs Promise stands behind every purchase.

Questions About Glass Jar Lamp

What is a glass bell jar?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertOctober 12, 2021

What is a ginger jar lamp?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertOctober 12, 2021

What are large glass jars called?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Large glass jars are also known as carboys or demijohns. A demijohn can hold 16 gallons, and is typically made of glass. They were historically used to transport water or chemicals, but nowadays, demijohns are used to brew beer in one’s home. You’ll find a variety of demijohns from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
What are colored glass lamps called?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertFebruary 17, 2023
What colored glass lamps are called depends on their design. People usually refer to lamps with stained glass shades as Tiffany lamps or Tiffany-style lamps, after Louis Comfort Tiffany, the best known designer of this style of lamp (even if the fixture is not a product of the iconic Tiffany Studios). Colored glass lamps made by artisans on Murano in Venice are commonly referred to as Murano lamps. Shop a collection of lamps from some of the world's top sellers on 1stDibs.
How do I identify a slag glass lamp?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertNovember 4, 2024
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertAugust 24, 2021
Yes, you can paint a glass lamp shade. You can use glass paints or acrylic paint to give old glass fixtures an inexpensive makeover. You can also use stencils for added visual appeal. Find a variety of lamp shades on 1stDibs.
How can you tell how old a glass lamp is?
1 Answer
1stDibs ExpertMay 5, 2023
To tell how old a glass lamp is, first look for markings that can help identify the name of the manufacturer. Many makers placed markings or labels on the bulb’s housing or the bases of the lamps they produced. By using trusted online resources, you can determine when the maker was active and estimate the age of the fixture. Certified appraisers can also be of assistance when trying to date lamps. Shop a range of glass lamps on 1stDibs.
