There are artists and there are masters. Richard MacDonald will go down in the history of sculpture as Picasso did painting, as an unequivocal master of the art.
Only a number of people can master craftsmanship, far fewer, the art of the human form. Figurative sculpture is a language MacDonald speaks with astounding fluency, and as with any language, MacDonald’s creative drive is formed from a need to share the universal dialect of the human figure with those who understand it; this is the unique privilege the artist affords his viewers.
MacDonald captures the beauty, romance and essence of the human spirit in motion. Influenced by the expressiveness in the figures of Renaissance master Donatello, the emotional intensity of works by 19th century French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and the power of Michelangelo’s sculptures, MacDonald’s inspirational, sensitive works are precisely of the moment, yet profoundly historic by reference. And they dance rhythmically for all to see — in the leap and grace of the dancer, the power of the athlete, the gesture and passion of lovers, the spirit rises, and MacDonald captures it.

Spirit of Gravity - emotive, nude, female, figurative, bronze statuette
By Richard Tosczak
Located in Bloomfield, ON
In this thoughtful sculpture by Canadian artist Richard Tosczak, the gestures of a female figure, head bent, arms wrapped, are captured in bronze. Known for his beautiful figurative work, this piece retains the artist’s signature highly textured appearance and green-black patina. Tosczak’s pieces are first conceived on paper in quick pen and ink drawings. The spontaneity of this approach is evident in the almost abstract appearance of the sculpture. This piece is number three in an edition of eight. “The ineffable, vital qualities of the human spirit (is what I’m trying to communicate.)” - Richard Tosczak Born in Belgium, Richard Tosczak studied philosophy and sculpture at the University of Alberta. At that time, Tosczak began working in steel and was influenced by a number of his professors who appreciated the work of a British abstract sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro considered one of the greatest sculptors of his generation. Further studies were pursued in France with another internationally acclaimed classic sculptor, Martine Vaugel...

Blind Trust, Atelier Bronze Sculpture, Contemporary, 21st Century
By Richard MacDonald
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
“Courage is a kind of salvation.” —Plato. Nothing worthwhile springs from fear: fear is the serpent in the garden, the hole in the boat, the flaw in the plan—it can steer us from danger, but ungoverned by courage it is just as likely to steer us toward a bad outcome. We all have the capacity to be brave, and it is by finding our courage that everything we value comes into being—there can be no love without courage, no kindness without courage, no creativity without courage. As we all face this crisis of unusual scope, we are all living as the figures in Richard MacDonald’s “Blind Faith...
