About the Item

Nap Time (Puppy on a Boot) is a limited-edition cast bronze sculpture by Andrea Wilkinson, created in an edition of 30 castings with this particular piece numbered 11 of 30. The sculpture tenderly portrays a sleeping puppy sprawled out in complete rest, resting its heavy head and muzzle comfortably over a worn work boot laid on its side. Wilkinson brings a lifelike, tactile warmth to the work through her expressive hand-modeling, detailing the puppy's slumbering expression and relaxed paws alongside the textured tread of the boot sole, all unified by a warm, lustrous bronze patina that catches gentle light across the canine's rounded back.

Cast Iron Sleeping Scotty Dog Doorstop, Attributed to Hubley Manufacturing Company, Early 20th Century This charming cast iron sleeping Scotty dog doorstop, attributed to the Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, exemplifies the enduring appeal of early 20th-century American figural ironwork. Modeled as a recumbent Scottish Terrier with its head resting gently on its forepaws, the sculpture conveys a sense of calm domesticity and quiet companionship. The figure is crisply cast, with particular attention given to the Scotty’s distinctive pricked ears, elongated muzzle, and textured coat, rendered through rhythmic, hand-finished striations that suggest fur and musculature. The proportions are well balanced, allowing the piece to function practically as a doorstop while retaining a sculptural presence suitable for display. Executed in solid cast iron, the surface retains a deep, even dark patina consistent with age, enhancing the dog’s form and lending visual depth. Such animal doorstops...

By Georges Lucien Guyot

Sensitively rendered, hand-cast, signed bronze sculpture of a resting dog on a naturalistic base of the same by listed French artist, Georges Lucien-Guyot (1885-1973). The animal is relaxed with head on crossed paws- a familiar and charming pose. Born to a modest family, Guyot lacked the funds for a formal education but was apprenticed to a woodcarver and gained valuable technical expertise through copying religious works from the 15th century. Turning his sights to the natural world, he frequently drew animals and plants in the Jardin des Plantes, transferring his studies to sculptures in the studio. A famous figure of the Montmartre disttrict of Paris, Guyot was the host of the famed artist salon building, the Bateau-Lavoir from the time of Cubism. In 1931, he joined the group of the Twelve, created by François Pompon and Jane Poupelet...
