About the Item

Created after Peter Alexander's return to sculpture in the 2000s, this intimate urethane pyramid distills the artist's lifelong investigation of geometry, light, and perception into a remarkably concise form. Its softly translucent surface captures and diffuses ambient light, causing the sculpture to shift subtly in appearance as viewing conditions change. The pyramid's crisp planes and precise geometry belie its atmospheric quality, appearing at once solid and immaterial. Though modest in scale, the work exemplifies Alexander's ability to transform simple geometric forms into perceptual experiences, continuing the principles that have defined his practice since the emergence of California's Light and Space movement. This pyramid has a matte finish, however, with expert-done polishing, a translucent clear surface could be revealed underneath.
