About the Item

Retro gumball machine sculpture in lightweight polymer clay, combining candy mosaic techniques, nostalgia and Pop Art aesthetics. Candy Machine Yellow belongs to Elizabeth Art Candy’s Fake Candies series, a body of sculptural works inspired by childhood memories, popular culture and the visual language of sweets, toys and collectible objects. This unique sculpture reimagines the classic coin-operated gumball machine as a contemporary Pop Art object constructed from hundreds of individually modeled candy-like elements. Unlike traditional ceramic sculpture, the work is created entirely from polymer clay, a lightweight and highly durable material that allows the artist to achieve remarkable chromatic richness while maintaining a surprisingly low overall weight. Each candy-shaped component is individually hand-modeled, colored and assembled into a dense mosaic structure that transforms the familiar silhouette of a vintage vending machine into a vibrant sculptural composition. The bright yellow base supports a globe filled with multicolored spherical forms that evoke gumballs, confectionery displays and childhood rituals associated with anticipation and surprise. Through repetition, accumulation and color, the sculpture generates a playful visual rhythm while celebrating the emotional power of nostalgic objects. Elizabeth Art Candy’s practice frequently transforms everyday symbols of pleasure and memory into highly tactile contemporary artworks. In Candy Machine Yellow, the iconic gumball dispenser becomes both a sculptural tribute to mid-century popular culture and a joyful exploration of color, texture and material invention. This polymer clay sculpture is particularly suited for collectors interested in Pop Art sculpture, candy-inspired artworks, nostalgic design objects, colorful contemporary sculpture and playful collectible art. Candy Trip - Resin Sculpture Pop Art

Candy Trip - Resin Sculpture Pop Art

By Alben

Located in New York, NY

Cheeky references to pop culture and the societal context. Grounded in a postmodern vernacular, Alben’s paintings and sculptures are a pastiche of art historical moments including Pop and Classical art. Interested in street art, the self-taught artist references an array of cultural touchstones in his densely layered, often stencil-sprayed paintings; his allusions include corporate mascots, historical figures, actors, comic book characters, and artists. His sculpture similarly embraces popular culture, though it is also directly influenced by the work of the French artist Arman, who exhibited commercial objects as sculpture in the 1960s. Similarly insisting that popular culture and aesthetic production are linked, Alben inverts Arman’s structure by reimagining touchstones of art history such as the Venus de Milo as a configuration of crushed Coke cans
