Kim Fonder

INIZIO AVORIO III

Kim Fonder loves texture and touch. Her paintings and furniture reflect her infatuation with these two characteristics. From the materials Fonder selects, to the way she crafts each piece; these two attributes remain her focus. She seeks to honor Leonardo Da Vinci's words, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Kim Fonder distinguishes herself through a profound appreciation for texture and touch in her paintings. Her artistic endeavors showcase a remarkable commitment to simplicity and timelessness, rendering her work exceptionally suitable for spaces influenced by the principles of wabi-sabi or minimal interiors. Fonder generally paints for four to five hour stretches in the morning (her favorite time, when she “hasn’t had the experiences of the day yet – the world is fresh”) using combinations of organic materials - hemp, silk, linen, organic pigments and Venetian plaster. She seeks to evoke the calmness and airiness of the natural world and create a tranquil environment through her work. As she says, “Mother Nature makes color better than man ever can...and our eyes instinctively know it.”
